Santa Rosa County District Schools is proud to congratulate Riley Bartling and Silas Haack of Gulf Breeze High School on being named 2027 National Merit® Scholarship Program Semifinalists!
This outstanding achievement places Riley and Silas among more than 16,000 high school seniors nationwide who have earned the opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships to be offered next spring.

Our students had the opportunity to meet deputies, learn more about the important work they do in our community, explore patrol vehicles, interact with their K-9 partner, and make some pretty special memories along the way. Experiences like this are about so much more than a visit—they help build positive relationships, strengthen community connections, and give our students meaningful real-world learning opportunities. This voluntary program allows families to register important information that may help first responders better understand and support an individual during an emergency. Information connected to a registered vehicle or home address can help deputies, EMS, and fire personnel know when an individual may need a more individualized or careful approach.

We understand that messages like these can be concerning to students, families, and staff. Please know that Santa Rosa County District Schools takes all potential threats seriously. Local law enforcement agencies are aware of the situation and are actively monitoring it. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority.
Out of an abundance of caution, additional law enforcement and security personnel will be present on and around our campuses this week.
Students who receive messages connected to this trend should not respond or engage. Instead, they should report the message to a parent or guardian, school administrator, or law enforcement official. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and report any concerning activity to Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office at 850-983-1190 or Santa Rosa County Crime Stoppers at 850-437-STOP (7867).
While we do not want to create unnecessary alarm, we take school safety very seriously and are sharing this information to keep our families informed. The safety and security of our students and staff remain our highest priority, and we appreciate the continued support and partnership of our families and community.
Representatives from Math and Science, Workforce Education, our high school leadership team, and the National Flight Academy came together to explore an exciting opportunity for our students. The group spent the morning learning more about the innovative, hands-on experiences offered through the National Flight Academy in Pensacola and discussing how we can work together to create a pathway for high school students to participate.
