East Bay K-8 School brought history to life during a special Patriots Day celebration filled with interactive learning experiences, historical demonstrations, and community partnerships.
Throughout the day, students had opportunities to step into the past and explore the people, events, and ideas that helped shape our nation. Activities included:

🎲 Playing Colonial games
🥽 Participating in virtual reality historical experiences
⭐ Learning about the meaning and history of the American Flag
👩🌾 Discovering Molly Pitcher and the Women of the American Revolution with Leslie Parker
📜 Exploring the Bill of Rights
🏴☠️ Experiencing Life at Sea as a Pirate with the Blackwater Pyrates
⚓ Learning about Revolutionary War Shipwrecks with the Florida Public Archaeology Network
🕵️ Discovering George Washington: Spymaster with the Sons of the American Revolution
The celebration was made even more meaningful through the participation of Michelle Cunningham, SRCDS Science Department; Dr. Findlay, Sons of the American Revolution; the Florida Public Archaeology Network; Capt. Dan and Serene Keiek, Blackwater Pyrates; Leslie Parker as Molly Pitcher; Gulf Breeze High School Rho Kappa students; the Historic Preservation Board; Dr. Amy Parker, SRCDS Coordinator of Social Studies; East Bay K-8 administrators and staff; and the many parent volunteers who helped make the day possible.

Our Job Coach team has been hard at work installing a new PAES Lab—an exciting addition that will give students opportunities to explore their strengths, interests, and potential career paths through hands-on learning.
PAES stands for Practical Assessment Exploration System.
The lab creates a simulated workplace where students with disabilities practice real-world tasks in five career areas:
🔹 Business and Marketing
🔹 Construction and Industrial
🔹 Consumer and Service
🔹 Computer Technology
🔹 Processing and Production
While working in the lab, students build valuable employability skills such as independence, problem-solving, time management, following directions, work quality, and workplace safety.
Santa Rosa County District Schools is proud to have PAES Labs in all of our high schools across the district. This year, we are expanding those opportunities by piloting PAES Labs in two of our middle schools.
By introducing career exploration earlier, we are helping students discover what they enjoy, recognize what they do well, and begin preparing for meaningful employment and greater independence.

🎗️ September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️
Santa Rosa County District Schools is proud to recognize September 2026 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and to stand with the children and families whose lives are impacted by childhood cancer.
As part of this important recognition, we would like to give a special acknowledgment to Katie and Hunter Kennedy of Jay Elementary School. 💛 Their presence helps bring a personal connection to this important cause and reminds us of the strength, hope, and courage represented throughout our Santa Rosa community.
Each year, an average of 50 children in Northwest Florida are newly diagnosed with cancer, highlighting the continued need for awareness, research, improved treatments, and support for children and their families.
We are grateful for the work of the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research and Rally Gulf Coast, which help raise awareness and funding for childhood cancer research while supporting families facing the challenges of a childhood cancer diagnosis.
Throughout September—and throughout the year—we encourage our community to Go Gold, raise awareness, support families, and help bring hope for a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive. 💛🎗️
